when you snap that line for the soffit going up the gable… measure down an inch and an eighth or whatever the j channel nailer is so that you can see the line easier

I am wondering I have a flat masonite sided home, well half is brick, do you still have to install that under board? Is the pourpose for added insulation?

blakeismaddas February 10, 2010 at 1:34 pm

hammer, tape, pencil, drill, snips, razor knife, square, if you dont have strong fingers a zip tool

bratwc3 February 10, 2010 at 4:33 pm

its not a problem at all to strip Vinyl board and batten, not sure on the cost due to material costs differ, plus lights, doors, windows, if any soffit has to be removed it all has to do with the job, you’ll need to get a estimate from a local sider – should be free.

arthurgurfleheimer February 10, 2010 at 5:18 pm

Does anybody know if it is possible to strip board and batten? If so, approximately how much would it cost to strip board and batten from a 5000 square foot house?

thegoodman91 February 10, 2010 at 5:29 pm

savoth91 February 10, 2010 at 7:53 pm

What are all the tools i would need to rip off and install vinyl siding

sbruce519 February 10, 2010 at 8:11 pm

The back and one side of my house has vinyl siding and the other side and front is still aluminum, should I remove all the aluminum siding first or just go over it? any advise would be helpfull.

dslynx February 10, 2010 at 8:26 pm

For a second, I was beginning to wonder if you were using furring.. I’m glad I watched it all the way through. I feel much more confident about the project I’m just beginning on my garage! Thanks for the video!

THOMASSCOGHAN February 10, 2010 at 8:46 pm

are you fuckin retarded

mailman77usmc February 10, 2010 at 8:55 pm

great job… especially around the electric box, very good idea… only question, may sound dumb, did you pull off the old siding first or just insulate on top of it and side over that??

On All Soffit less than 15 inches in length, expansion is far less of a concern. I generally use a fastener at only one end of the panel to allow any necessary expansion within the J-Channel.

J-Channel is firmly fastened around all window openings, and expansion is not generally an issue. Corner Post are loosely nailed or fastened to address Expansion.

endurancewest08 February 10, 2010 at 9:10 pm

How does the soffit and j-channel expand if you screw it in. The way you installed that is how old school aluminum guys installed metal thet did not expand in the heat. The Soffit will bow in heat and you voided manufactures warenty.
